My name is Michael Neely and I help business owners achieve their business marketing goals. I am a WordPress developer, web designer, and graphic designer in Atlanta, GA. I help my clients build, and maintain their WordPress websites. I am also a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) consultant helping my clients get better ranking in their websites in search results. Years ago, my girlfriend had a job as communications director. I thought she had the coolest job and I wanted this for a living too. I formally began my freelance career in 2011 when the restaurant I was working in closed its doors a week before Christmas. I bought a book called HTML, XHTML and CSS All-In-One for Dummies and got to work. I downloaded the open source text editor Aptana and the open source graphic design tool GIMP and began learning. Since then I have graduated to Adobe Creative Cloud and began studying WordPress design and development and applying what I know. I won my first paying clients in November 2015, a graphic design client and a website updating client. Since then, I have helped over 50 small business clients all over the United States with over 100 projects, and the list keeps growing.
I first worked in Adobe Illustrator in 2000 creating artwork for my advertising specialties clients. I also designed a few restaurant menus in 2003. I began working in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and more) in 2014. Since then, I have custom designed brochures, logos, trade show banners, PowerPoint presentations, eBooks, social media profile art, and other marketing tools. I have customized WordPress sites, built child themes and custom-coded WordPress themes from scratch. I enjoy turning PSD (Photoshop) mock-ups into fully functional WordPress sites.
I built my first site in March 2000 with a drag-and-drop website builder. After that I graduated to Microsoft FrontPage. The first site I built by hand-coding is the first MichaelNeelyFreelancer.com site. It is a nice basic site that lacked a lot of the functionality and search availability of a CMS-based site (even though it is the fastest loading site I have ever built). I also built a two more sites (Omnifood and PSD to HTML5) as part of online courses I took to refresh my education on HTML5 and CSS3. I can build an HTML5 website at the request of any client and may get back into building straight HTML5 sites again.
WordPress Designer and Developer
In October 2012, I noticed that my new site was not showing up in the top 10 pages of Google. I stared at my new website looking for new ways to implement a search engine optimization strategy. I learned about WordPress and how search engines love WordPress. I decided that WordPress was the way to go for me.
I learned to make some changes to my sites altering the CSS code and a little PHP. In 2015, I got serious and started taking classes on WordPress development. I have now custom coded a few WordPress themes for Atlanta companies and I look forward to building new themes. I also like to custom design sites for clients using themes from StudioPress on the Genesis framework.
